Time Texture, 2015

    Mixed media

Hamaguchi prepares a copy of an object from an original that is in the exhibition site. She adds the same flaws or stains found in the original object to the copy so that it becomes exactly the same in quality as the original. The aim is to challenge the value between the original object and the replica in its place. In this particular version, the original aluminum venetian blind had become damaged and imperfect over time through use and misuse. It had its own history. In contrast, the time it took the artist to replicate the object's imperfections was relatively short. Through this process, the value of both objects is put into question. Is the copy more valuable than the original?
